About PT-141 (Bremelanotide)
PT-141 is the development name originally used by Palatin Technologies for the compound now known by the international nonproprietary name bremelanotide — PT-141 and bremelanotide refer to the same molecule, with PT-141 being the earlier research-stage designation.
Bremelanotide is a melanocortin-receptor agonist, acting primarily at MC3R and MC4R receptors within the central nervous system. This distinguishes its proposed mechanism from peripheral vasodilator drugs such as PDE5 inhibitors, which work through a different pathway entirely.
A bremelanotide-containing pharmaceutical, marketed under a different brand name, has received regulatory approval in the United States for a specific indication in a defined patient population. This approval applies to that specific licensed pharmaceutical product and indication — it does not extend to, or imply approval of, research-grade PT-141 material supplied for laboratory use, including this product, and this product is not that licensed pharmaceutical.
Reliable Research Labs supplies PT-141 as a 10 mg vial of lyophilised powder, tested to ≥99.8% purity by HPLC analysis, strictly for qualified laboratory research. See our Compound Library entry for PT-141 for a wider overview.
